Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has defended the decision to axe winger Haminu Dramani from his final World Cup squad, insisting he was too ill to prove himself.
The Russia-based influential player was down with malaria during their training camp in France before the final squad was named.
The Serbian coach says he wanted to give Dramani the chance as he has not even played for his club in recent times.
“He has not be playing for his club in Russia since the season started in March- he was not even on the bench,” Rajeavc said.
“Yet we wanted to give him the opportunity as we included him in the provisional list for him to prove himself as an experienced player.
“But unfortunately when we got to France for the training camp he got sick from malaria and could not have enough time to prove himself and convince me.
“This is a finished story so we must now concentrate on the World Cup and on the players who are currently in camp.”
Rajevac’s final World Cup squad has received the backing of most Ghanaians as they prepare for their opening World Cup clash against Serbia on Sunday.
